Why are the rectangular blade openings in a typical three wire 15A receptacle two different sizes?
On a 15A receptacle, the longer of the two rectangular blade openings is the neutral contact. And the shorter blade opening is the hot contact.The blade configurations are determined by NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturing Association).
